The invention describes a method for selectively controlling weeds in an area where cultivated plants and weeds grow, which includes applying to the area of growth an aqueous spray composition in an amount that provides weed control, comprising a compound of formula (I) in which R is selected from the group including C -C-alkyl, C-C-alkenyl, C-C-haloalkenyl, C-C-alkynyl, C-C-haloalkynyl, C-C-cycloalkyl, C-C-haloalkyl, C-C-alkoxy-C-C -alkyl and C-C-alkoxy-C-C-alkoxy-C-C-alkyl; and R is C-C-haloalkyl; or its agriculturally acceptable salt; where the pH value of the aqueous spray composition is from about 5 to about 9. The application also describes a liquid, essentially non-aqueous herbicidal composition comprising a compound of formula (I) as defined above and a pH regulator, and the use of a pH regulator to reduce the phytotoxicity of the compound of formula ( I) for cultivated plants. |
