METHOD OF PRODUCTION OF LEVULINIC ACID ESTERS FROM BIOMASS |
abstract |
A novel method for the direct synthesis of levulinic acid esters is described, starting from a biomass containing one or more polysaccharides and aliphatic alcohols in the presence of a suitable organic acid catalyst. In particular, the biomass may be a lignin-cellulosic biomass. The esters thus obtained can be used as oxygenate components in automotive fuel formulations to reduce particulate emissions. |
