PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION FOR CONTRACEPTION AND SUBSTITUTIONAL HORMONAL THERAPY |
abstract |
The present invention relates to slow-release estradiol-progesterone compositions that can be used in contraception and hormone replacement therapy. The compositions comprise molded particles of estradiol, which is in a hemicrystalline form, exhibiting a particularly low dissolution rate. Molded particles include estradiol mixed in a 1: 1 molar ratio with cholesterol and are intended to be administered in combination with progesterone. The slow release compositions of the present invention provide the dual benefits of a low dose estradiol composition with a low frequency administration regimen. The compositions may be administered parenterally once a month or less frequently. |
