abstract |
The present invention relates to a polymerization process for the production of olefin polymers in a loop reactor with two or more settling legs, comprising the steps of introducing one or more olefinic reagents, polymerization catalysts and diluents into the loop reactor and simultaneously circulating said reagents, catalysts and diluents; polymerizing said one or more olefinic reactants to form a polymer slurry containing essentially a liquid diluent and olefinic polymer solids; wherein said method further comprises one or more cycles: (a) ensuring the deposition of said polymer slurry in said settling outlets and (b) sequential unloading of said precipitated polymer slurry from said two or more reactor settling outlets, the cumulative discharge time from all outlets is more than 50%, preferably more than 80% and most preferably more than 95% of the time interval between two actuations of the same settling outlet. |
