titleOfInvention | METHOD OF OBTAINING OXYCODON |
abstract | A process for the preparation of oxycodone of formula I, wherein thebaine of formula II or an analogue of formula III is reacted, wherein R is C-C1-6alkyl, alkylaryl, preferably benzyl, methoxybenzyl or allyl, with hydrogen peroxide or peroxo acids in the presence of oxalic acid mixed with acetic or formic acid. From the resulting crystalline precipitate of 14-hydroxycodeinone oxalate, the addition of a base gives 14-hydroxycodeinone of formula IV, which is hydrogenated with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst to produce oxycodone (I). Oxycodone is converted to hydrochloride, which is used as the active ingredient in painkillers. |
