A method for producing a class of phenylalanine enamide derivatives described by formula (1), in which Ar is an optionally substituted aromatic or heteroaromatic group; L is a linking group selected from —N (R) [wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted straight or branched C alkyl group], —CON (R) or S (O) N (R) -; R3 is a carboxylic acid (-COH) or a derivative thereof or a bioster; R5 represents a hydrogen atom or a Ci-alkyl group; R, R and R, which may be the same or different, represent an atom or group L (Alk) (R); and its salts, solvates, hydrates and N-oxides; which involves reacting a compound of formula (2) wherein Q is a —N (R) H group; and its salts, solvates, hydrates and N-oxides; with a compound ArW, in which W is a group selected from X (wherein X is a removable atom or group), —COX (where X is a halogen atom or OH group), or —SOX (in which X is a halogen atom). |
