Thienyl sulfonamides were obtained and methods for modulating or changing the activity of endothelin family peptides were developed. In particular, N- (isoxazolyl) thienyl sulfonamides have been prepared and methods have been developed for using these sulfonamides to inhibit the binding of the endothelin peptide to endothelin receptors by reacting the receptors with sulfonamide. Methods have also been developed for the treatment of diseases caused by endothelin by using effective amounts of one or more sulfonamides or their prodrugs that inhibit or increase the activity of endothelin. |
