abstract | A method for preparing microparticles containing an aqueous solution or dispersion of a chemical for oil or gas production, encapsulated in a continuous polymer phase representing a degradable polymer. The method includes: (a) preparing water in oil in an aqueous double emulsion or water in oil in an oil double emulsion having an internal aqueous phase containing an aqueous solution and dispersion of a chemical for oil or gas production and an internal oil phase containing a solution of a decomposing polymer dissolved in a volatile organic solvent in which the internal aqueous phase is dispersed in the internal oil phase of a double emulsion in the form of droplets having an average diameter of less than 10 μm; (b) at least partially evaporating the volatile organic solvent from the double emulsion, such that the degradable polymer accumulates around the droplets of the internal aqueous phase and solidifies to form microparticles containing a continuous polymer phase encapsulating the internal aqueous phase; the average particle diameter is less than 10 μm. |
