abstract |
The present invention relates to an element for controlled dosed release of an active substance adapted for administration and preservation in a rumen of a ruminant. This element includes: a) one or more discrete and predetermined amounts of at least a first preparation comprising at least a first active agent, the preparation being adapted to dissolve in rumen fluids at such a rate that each of one or more quantities of the first drug provide a short or pulsed episode of release of the first active agent into the scar; and b) one or more predetermined amounts of at least a second preparation adapted for dissolution at a controlled rate in rumen fluids, where one or more amounts of the first preparation is in one or more predetermined positions within the element relative to said one or more amounts of the second preparation for one or more delayed releases of at least the first active agent into the scar at predetermined times before, during, after (or at any th combination) of a predetermined extended time period defined by said second preparation. The invention also relates to a method for delivering at least a first active agent into a scar of a ruminant animal with a delay, the method comprising administering to the animal a controlled dosage release element of the invention.
