CIGARETTE AND FILTER WITH THE FOLLOWING ADDITION OF AROMA |
abstract |
A cigarette (10) containing a tobacco rod (12) and a multicomponent filter (14) containing an adsorbent layer (15) and a segment (17) that evolves aroma located after the adsorbent layer (15). In a preferred embodiment, the adsorbent carries a flavoring agent and contains a high surface area activated carbon (20). When mainstream smoke is drawn in through the front portion of the filter (14), the gas phase components of the smoke are removed and aroma is released from the adsorbent bed (15). Thereafter, additional aroma is released into the mainstream smoke when the smoke passes through the aroma-generating filter segment (17). Ventilation (24) is provided to limit the amount of tobacco burned during each puff, which is located at a distance after the adsorbent bed (15) in order to reduce the rate of mainstream smoke through the adsorbent bed (15). |
