titleOfInvention GENERATOR OF RANDOM NUMBERS ON THE BASIS OF SELF-PERFORMANCE α-DECAY
abstract The present invention provides an apparatus and method for generating random numbers. A device for generating random numbers, includes a source of α-decay particles; a detector of said α-decay particles located relative to said source so as to detect said α-decay particles and generate an electrical pulse in response to detection of said α-decay particles; a selective discriminator connected to said detector for identifying detection signals corresponding to the actual detection of said α-decay particles from said source; and a binary code generator coupled to said discriminator for generating binary signals in response to positive identification by said discriminator of said detection signals corresponding to the actual detection of said α decay particles from said source. The inventive method for generating random numbers includes randomly producing only α-decay particles in time from a given source of said α-particles; selectively detecting said α-decay particles from a given source, while at the same time avoiding detecting any events other than said α-decay particles; generating a detection signal corresponding to positive detection of only said α-decay particles; and generating a binary signal in response to positive detection of only said α-decay particles from said given source.
