abstract The present invention discloses compounds derived from thiophene and benzothiophene, the corresponding use and composition; the compounds have the formula (I), where Z is —CO, —CH (OR), —C (NOR) -; R 1 is H, C 1-6 alkyl, halogen or —OR; R and R represent H, alkyl, halogen, nitro or —O — R or R and R together represent —CR = CR — CR = CR; R and R are H, alkyl, halogen, haloalkyl, OR, nitro, —NRR, —COR, —SONRR, —SOR, —SR, cyano, —CONRR or R and R together form a benzene ring; R represents H, alkyl, —CR, —C (O) NRR, naphthyl or phenyl; R represents H or alkyl; R, R, R and R are H, alkyl, halogen, —OR, nitro, cyano, —NRR, —COR, —COR, SONRR, —SOR, —SR, —CONRR; R 1 is H, C 1-6 alkyl or phenyl; and R and R represent H, alkyl or phenyl, or R and R form a ring having 5 or 6 members. These compounds are effective in treating anxiety or depression.
