abstract |
A method is described for administering to a patient through the mucous membrane, in particular through the mucous membrane of the mouth or nose, levosimendan or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The method includes the interaction of an intact mucous membrane with a source of levosimendan and maintaining this source in contact with the specified mucous membrane for a period of time sufficient to deliver levosimendan to the patient. Levosimendan preparations for administration through the mucous membrane are also described. Levosimendan is useful in the treatment of heart failure. |
