abstract A new recombinant protein, called antisecretory factor (rAF), its homologues and peptide fragments are described. Antibodies against AF or its homologs or fragments are described. In addition, nucleic acids encoding the indicated protein or its homologs or fragments, as well as vectors and hosts containing these nucleic acids are described. rAF, its homologues and fragments can be used for immunodetection; for addition to food for young animals as food additives; and also as prophylactic agents and medicines for the treatment of diseases, including edema, dehydration and / or inflammation.
