1. A catalyst for the preparation of hydrocarbons from synthesis-gas comprising catalytic- active compound supported on a carrier, wherein cobalt and manganese and/or vanadium, supported on a carrier from silicon dioxide, wherein the cobalt:(manganese + vanadium) atomic ratio is at least 12:1, with the proviso that the catalyst does not contain cobalt and manganese in an atomic ratio of 39:1 or 38,2:1. 2. A catalyst as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the carrier comprises titanium dioxide, zirconium dioxide or mixtures thereof. 3. A catalyst as claimed in Claim 1 or 2, wherein the cobalt:(manganese + vanadium) atomic ratio is at least 15:1. 4. A catalyst as claimed in any one of the preceding Claims in which at least part of the cobalt is in the metallic state. 5. A process for the preparation of a catalyst as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 3, which comprises impregnating the carrier with a solution of a cobalt salt and a solution of a manganese and/or vanadium salt, followed by drying and, optionally, calcining. 6. A process as claimed in Claim 5, which comprises co-impregnating the carrier with a solution of a cobalt salt and a manganese and/or vanadium salt. |
