abstract Furan derivative The invention concerns the hitherto unknown furan derivative N-[2-[[[5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-furanyl]-methyl]- thio]-ethyl]-N'-methyl-2-nitro-1,1-ethene diamine with the structure: <IMAGE>, V which is suitable as an intermediate for preparation of the familiar histamine H2-antagonistranitidine, having the structure <IMAGE>, I Ranitidine is obtained in good yield and with high purity and the compound, V, according to the invention can itself be prepared from familiar and easily accessible raw materials in a few reaction steps and with good yield by simple chemical processes.
