titleOfInvention PARTICULARLY INSULATED MULTIFACE FLEXIBLE THERMOPLASTIC MATERIAL
abstract A partially grafted, multiphased, flexible, thermoplastic material is formed by the melt mixing of: a) 25-50 per cent by volume of at least one thermoplastic resin which has vacant grafting sites, with the thermoplastic material having an average molecular mass of at least 5000, b) 10-74 per cent by volume of at least one ethylene copolymer, E/X/Y, where E denotes ethylene having at least 50 per cent by weight of E/X/Y, X is from 1-35 per cent by weight of an acid containing unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, and Y is from 0-49 per cent by weight of a fraction which is derived from at least one alkyl acrylate, alkyl methacrylate, vinyl ether, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, or mixtures thereof, with the alkyl and ether radicals containing 1-12 C atoms, and with, furthermore, the acid groups in the acid-containing fraction being neutralised from 0-100% with the aid of [illegible] metal ion, and c) 1-50 per cent by volume of at least one polymeric grafting material which contains reactive groups which are selected from at least one of: epoxides, isocyanates, aziridine, silanes, such as alkoxy silanes or halogenosilanes, alkylating agents, such as alkyl halides or α-halogenoketones or aldehydes, or oxazolines, which grafting agents react with the acid-containing fraction in component b), and which additionally react with the reactive grafting sites on the component a), and in which the quantity of reactive groups, x, which is provided to the material by the grafting agent, expressed as mmol of reactive groups per 100 g of component b + component c, is defined by the following formula: d-(a).(m)< x < 16 where, a = per cent by volume of component a, b = 0.9 mmol of reactive groups per 100 g of component b + component c, m = 0.016 [mmol of reactive groups 100 g of component b + component c per cent by volume of component a] and, furthermore, in which the quantity of reactive groups on the polymeric grafting agent, component c, is between 0.5 - 15% by weight. The remaining polymeric grafting agent contains at least 50 per cent by weight of ethylene and from 0 - 49 per cent by weight of a fraction which is derived from at least one of alkyl methacrylate, alkyl methacrylate, vinyl ether, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, or mixtures thereof, with the alkyl and ether radicals containing 1-12 carbon atoms. The abovementioned percentages are based only on the total quantity of component a, component b and component c, and are calculated from the density of the individual components before being mixed together.
