abstract Previously unknown compounds, which exhibit plant growth- regulating activity on monocotyledonous plants such as cereal varieties, are provided. The compounds have the formula: <IMAGE> in which R1 is (C1-6)alkyl or (C2-6)alkenyl, each optionally substituted by a group in the form of hydroxyl, carboxyl, carboxy salt, phenyl or phenyl substituted by up to two identical or different substituents in the form of halogen, methyl, ethyl, methoxy, ethoxy, trifluoromethyl, nitro or cyano; R5 is hydrogen, (C1-6)alkyl or halogen, R6 is hydrogen or (C1- 6)alkyl, X is halogen, trihalogenomethyl, (C1-6)alkyl, nitro, cyano or (C1-6)alkoxy, n is 0 or an integer from 1- 3, and Y is hydrogen or (C1-6)alkyl. (a) Agronomically acceptable carboxy salts of compounds of the formula I (in which Y is hydrogen) and (b) agronomically acceptable acid addition salts of compounds of the formula I are also provided.
