abstract An object of the present invention is to provide a commercially advantageous process for preparing a fluoro benzoic acid. The process according to the present invention comprises either alkylating a fluoro benzoic acid of the formula <CHEM> wherein R<1> is halogen, or reducing a fluoro benzoic acid of the formula <CHEM> wherein R<1> is as defined above and R<2> is lower alkyl to thereby produce a fluoro benzoic acid represented by the formula <CHEM> wherein R<1> and R<2> are as defined above.e
