abstract The use of cationic indolizine derivatives as couplers in oxidation-dye compositions, some of these derivatives, and the method of hair dyeing using these compositions are new. The composition may also contain additional couplers and one or more direct colorants. Independent claims are also included for: (1) use of indolizine derivatives of formula (I) as claimed as couplers, in combination with at least one oxidation base, for oxidation-dyeing of keratin fibers, especially human hair; (2) process of oxidation-dyeing of hair, comprising application of at least one composition as claimed and revealing color at acidic, neutral or alkaline pH by means of oxidizing agent which is added at the moment of use of dyeing composition, or which is present in oxidizing composition applied simultaneously or sequentially, in separate fashion; (3) hair dyeing kit with number of compartments of which one contains the composition as claimed and another oxidizing composition; (4) indolizine derivatives of formula (I) excluding these containing cationic groups of formula (IV) and excluding 4-methyl-4- (2-(2-phenyl- 1-indolizinyl) -ethyl)- morpholinium bromide; and (5) the use of indolizine derivatives as claimed in (4) as couplers in oxidation-dyeing of keratin fibers, especially hair.
