titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of alkyl 4-bromophenyl ethers
abstract Prepn. of alkyl 4-bromophenylether derivs. (I) comprises reacting an alkyl phenyl ether with HBr and H2O2. The process is carried out in the absence of solvents. The HBr and H2O2 are added to the alkyl phenyl ether. >1 Mole H2O2 and >1 mol HBr are added per mol alkyl phenyl ether. The H2O2 and HBr are added simultaneously to alkyl phenyl ether at -10 to +20 deg C and the mixt. then warmed to 25-40 deg C. 1.0-1.2 Mol H2O2 and HBr are added to alkyl phenyl ether, the organic phase sepd. and this then reacted with more H2O2/HBr.
