titleOfInvention Device for the treatment of increased intraocular pressure
abstract A body made eg. of brass has two electrodes (3,4) located within an ellipsoid inner chamber. The electrodes have a capacitance between them which causes a spark across the air gap (1) between the electrodes. The spark is located at the focal point of the end of the ellipsoid chamber and the shock wave produced by the spark is reflected off the back wall to the front focal point (2) adjacent to the eye (5). The inner chamber is filled with a fluid which can have an UV absorbing dye in it to product the eye from damage and is sealed at the end by a membrane made from latex. To allow the device to rest easily against the eye, the front of the body (7) is tapered which reduces the efficiency somewhat but not beyond an unacceptable level. The shock wave removes restrictions in the eye tissue allowing better drainage.
