abstract | A vinyl copolymer (I) comprises the reaction prod. of (a) 1-99.9 wt.% vinyl monomer(s), (b) 0-98.9 wt.% mono-unsatd. monomer(s) other than (a) and (c) 0.1-99 wt.% mono-unsatd. macromonomer, comprising the reaction prod. (MM) of styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer (SMA) and hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA), or a hydrolysed deriv. of MM, or a mixt. of either of these with the reaction prod. of trimellitic anhydride (TMA) and HEA. Also claimed are (1) a water-dispersible compsn. (II) contg. the reaction prod. of 50-95 wt.% (a), 0-20 wt.% (b) and 5-40 wt.% (c), the vinyl copolymer being dispersible in aq. media after neutralisation of the COOH gps. with base; (2) the water-dispersible salt-contg. compsn. thus obtd.; (3) hardenable mixts. contg. compsn (II) and a crosslinker (III), and hardenable mixts. in aq. dispersion, contg. relatively large amts. of water and small amts. of (II) and (III); and (4) macromonomers and macromonomer mixts. as above. Pref. (I) is the reaction prod. of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate and macromonomer as above. |
