Aqueous dispersions (D) of a wax (W) dispersed in the aqueous phase by means of a dispersant (B), wherein the wax (W) is (A) an oxidised hydrocarbon wax or a mixture of oxidised hydrocarbon waxes, or a mixture of (A) and at least one non-oxidised hydrocarbon wax (P> which has an acid number >/= 5, and the dispersant (B) is a nonionic, anionic, cationic or amphoteric surfactant or a mixture of two or more such surfactants which has an HLB >/= 7, and the dispersions (D) optionally contain protective colloids (C), agents (E) for pH control, antifreeze agents (F) and/or preservatives (G), but are essentially free of waxes other than (A) and (P) and of surfactants other than (B) and (C), are highly suitable for use as wet lubricants which are very stable not only to temperature fluctuations but also to high electrolyte concentrations, in particular as encountered in the pretreatment and in the dyeing of cellulosic substrates. |
