abstract |
The appts. exploits the variation in fluorescence of cellular mitochondria with partial pressure of O2 in regions of tissue irradiated either directly or through an endoscope with ultraviolet radiation pref. in the NADH absorption band around 340 nm. A computer-controlled CCD camera observes the fluorescence images during normal breathing and while O2 is supplied through the biopsy channel for a few seconds. The difference between the two images is evaluated numerically and displayed. |
