abstract In a casting process for applying a plastic coating to a roll (4), the roll (4) is positioned with the axis vertical and is enclosed in a mould (30) which leaves a cavity (19) between the roll (4) and mould (30) surfaces.A reactive liquid polymer mix is injected into the cavity (19) through an entry point (50) in the mould wall (8). Filling of the cavity (19) commences at the lower end of the roll (4) and as the polymer mix level rises the entry point (50) is moved towards the upper end of the roll (4). The mould wall (8) is simultaneously closed below the filling point (50).Process equipment includes a lifting arrangement (3) for moving the roll (4) and mould (30) relative to the polymer mix injecting tube (18). The mould (30) has a sealable longitudinal slit (31) allowing the filling tube (18) to enter the mould cavity (19) from outside.
