Silanes of the general formula <IMAGE> where R<1>, R<2> and R<3> in the molecule are identical or different and denote aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals, R<4> is a divalent hydrocarbon radical having 4 to 12 carbon atoms and a laterally bonded hydroxyl group, R<5> is a hydrophilic ionic radical, and processes for the preparation of these compounds. The silanes produce a considerable lowering of the surface tension of aqueous solutions, the surface tension being lowered to values of about 22 mN/m. |
