abstract |
A granular foam regulator which is suitable for use in surfactant-containing detergents and cleaners and which contains inorganic and/or organic carrier material and an antifoam agent was to be designed so that it is stable on storage and can be incorporated without loss of activity into compacted heavy powders. This was essentially achieved by adjusting its apparent density to a value in the range from 700 g/l to 1000 g/l and its average particle size to a value in the range from 0.7 mm to 3 mm, with less than 6 % by weight of the foam regulator particles having a diameter below 0.4 mm and less than 25 % by weight of the particles having a diameter above 1.6 mm. It can be produced by extruding a homogeneous premix of carrier material, which contains alkali metal carbonate, and antifoam agent through dies with orifice widths in the range from 0.5 mm to 5 mm under pressures of from 25 bar to 200 bar and cutting the extrudate after emergence from the die using a cutting device to a length which differs by less than 20 % from the diameter of the die. |
