abstract |
The invention relates to a method for the diagnosis outside the human body and/or analysis of colon carcinomas. The method is characterised in that it is based on the detection and/or quantification of the expression of variant CD44 molecules, in particular those CD44 variants which express the exon v6. The method can expediently be carried out using antibodies on samples, for example tissue sections from biopsy material, in particular using antibodies against an epitope encoded by the exon v6. The method has diagnostic and prognostic value. It makes it possible to estimate the tumour stage on the basis of a molecular marker and thus provides information on the overall survival time and the risk of metastasis. |
