Feed compsn. for laying hens contains 40-60 wt. % of a n-3 fatty acid source (I), 30-50 wt. % of a carbohydrate source (II), 3-7 wt. % of a fibre source, and 0.5-1 wt. % of an antioxidant. Also claimed is a process for producing eggs rich in 3-n fatty acids, comprising feeding hens with the compsn. The eggs have a n-6/n-3 fatty acid ratio of 1-4. Pref. (I) comprises linseed, perilla seed and/or fish meal. ADVANTAGE - The feed is readily accepted by hens and provides a balanced diet. The eggs have good colour and shell hardness nad have a low content of n-6 acids, which are associated with cardiovasular disease. |
