Star-shaped nylon molecules, processes for their preparation, tetrasubstituted carboxylic acids and process for their preparation |
abstract |
A star-shaped nylon molecule with polymer chains derived from 3 or more polymerisation initiation gps. which are substituents bonded onto every second or further C atom on the aromatic ring of an aromatic cpd. Also claimed is a tetra-substd. carboxylic acid called 3,5,3',5'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid. USE/ADVANTAGE- The star-shaped nylon molecules have a low melt viscosity and excellent mechanical properties as they do no tform an intramolecular net structure. The chains are shorter than in linear nylon molecules. The glass transition temp. is increased; this is an index of thermal stability. The polymers can be poured into films and are of good compatibility with other polymers. The tetra substituted carboxylic acid is a polymerisation nucleus for star-shaped nylon polymers. |
