abstract Reference material set for calibration of a photoelectric colourimeter for determining crude oil products i.e. ASTM colours comprising two or more reference material types, each of which is a coloured mixed soln. corresponding to an ASTM colour which comprises the following: (a) five or more of (i) 3-methyl-1-phenyl-4- (phenylazo)-pyrazole-4-ol, (ii) 1-(phenylazo)-naphthalen-2-ol, (iii) 1-((4-((-dimethylphenyl)azo) dimethylphenyl)azo) -naphthalen-2-ol, (iv) 1,5 (or 1,8)-bis((4-methylphenyl) amino)-9,10-anthracene dione, (v) 1-hydroxy-4- ((4-methylphenyl)amino) -9, 10-anthracene dione, (vi) 1,4-bis(butylamino)-9,10-anthracene dione or (vii) 1,4-bis((4-butylphenyl)amino) -5,8-dihydroxy-9,10- anthracenedione dyes; (b) 1-phenyl-xylylethane solvent; and (c) dodecane thinner. Also claimed is the instrumental measuring of crude oil products (i.e. ASTM colours) using a photoelectric colourimeter calibrated with the reference materials. USE/ADVANTAGE - For measuring crude oil prods. e.g. lubricating oils, paraffin oil and micro-crystalline waxes.
