abstract | Acrylate copolymer elastomers (I) with Mooney viscosity (ML) 10-100 are claimed. (I) are obtd. by copolymerisation of (a) 45-89.9 wt% monomer of formula CH2=CH-COO-R1 (IIA) and/or CH2=CH-COOR2-O-R3 (IIB), (b) 10-45 wt% monomer of formula CH2=CR4-COO-C2H4-O-(CO-(CH2)5O)n-R5 (III) (c) 0.1-10 wt% crosslinkable monomer and (d) 0-30 wt% mono-unsatd. comononer; R1, R3 = 1-8C alkyl; R2 = 1-8C alkylene; R4 = H or Me; R5 = H or 1-4C hydrocabryl; n = 1-5. Also claimed are vulcanisable materials (IA) contg. (I), a vulcanising agent and auxiliary vulcanisation additives. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for the prodn. of various rubber prods., e.g. gaskets, tubes, conveyor belts, packaging, bearing seals, oil seals, etc. The incorporation of the above acrylate ester units gives elastomers (I) with improved oil resistance and low-temp. resistance, without adversely affecting the inherent good heat resistance.
