abstract 14,17- alpha -Etheno- and -ethanoestra-1,3,5(10),6-tetraenes, -1,3,5(10),6,8(9)-pentaenes and -1,3,5(10),6,8(9),11-hexaenes of the general formula I <IMAGE> in which R<1> is a hydrogen atom or a straight-chain or branched C1-C8-alkyl, alkanoyl, C3-C7-cycloalkyl, trialkylsilyl, arylalkylsilyl, aralkyl or aroyl group, and R<2> is a hydrogen atom or a straight-chain or branched C1-C8-alkanoyl, trialkylsilyl, arylalkylsilyl, aralkyl or aroyl group, A-B is a C-C single or double bond, K-L is a C-C single or double bond, M-N is a C-C single bond and, if K-L is a double bond, is also a double bond, and a process for their preparation are described. The compounds have excellent oestrogenic activity both after subcutaneous and after oral administration and are suitable for the production of medicines.
