The use of at least one N-acyl-alkanolamine deriv. of formula R2-CHR3-(CH2)n-NH-R1 (I) is claimed as active agent in a cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical compsn. for preventing damage to skin by light rays and/or for treating skin damaged by light and/or heat or insect stings. R1 = acyl derived from a satd 1-18C or unsatd. 3-18C carboxylic acid or their derivs.; R2 = OH or ester gp.; R3 = H or 1-4C alkyl; n = 0-5. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful on topical admin. for combatting dermatosis caused or influenced by light, e.g. solar dermatitis, actinic atrophy, cutis rhomboidalis nuchae, erythrosis interfollicularis colli, Morbus Eaure Racouchot, keratosis, cutaneous cornification, actinic cheilitis, summer prurigo, Mallorea acne, phototoxic dermatitis, meadow grass dermatitis, photoallergic dermatitis, polymorphic dermatitis, hydroa racciniformia, xeroderma pigmentosum, lupus erythematodes, dermatitis rosaceae, seborrhoeic eczema and lichen ruber planus, including associated problems such as dryness, roughness, redness, wrinkles and ageing. (I) are also useful for healing redness, wheals, swelling, pain, itching and irritation caused by insect stings or bites, e.g. from bees, wasps, hornets, mosquitoes, mites, ticks, sand-flies or gadflies. ADVANTAGE - (I) have rapid action, cause no side-reactions (e.g. redness or irritation) even in sensitive patients and are completely non-toxic. They are easily formulated as stable solns., emulsions or dispersions. (I) are readily available, e.g. from natural products. |
