abstract The cpd. bis-pentafluorotritin(II)-hexafluorosilicate, (Sn3F5)2SiF6, is new. Prepn of the cpd is also claimed. USE/ADVANTAGE - The cpd. can be used for galvanic tinning of metal surfaces, chemical or thermal tinning of glass materials or ceramic materials, or as active agents in disinfectants or insecticides (e.g., for protection of wood). In an example, A 5 m3 electrolysis vessel was fitted with tin anode, tin cathode and ion exchange membrane. Hexafluorosilicic acid (35%) was added so that 1.2 m3 was in the cathode region and 3 m3 was in the anode region. The strength of current was 1200-1500 A and the voltage was 8-10 V. After 14 days, the electrolysis was terminated and the resulting soln. was shown to have a tin content of 300 g/l. The soln. was conc. to give new cpd. as colourless crystals.
