titleOfInvention Electro-optical system
abstract A novel electro-optical system consists of: (A) two substrates of a microporous material provided with electrode layers and opt. also with polarisation layers; and (B) anisotropic, rod-shaped, transverse dipole molecules positioned in the pores of microporous material (A) and oriented along their longitudinal axes. The microporous material is pref. an aluminophosphate, aluminosilicate, clay or beta-cyclodextrin and is pref. uniformly oriented. The anisotropic rod-shaped molecules are pref. liq. crystal molecules. ADVANTAGE - A system e.g. for use in display devices is obtd. which is based on inclusion complexes. The system shows good electro-optical properties with favourable switch voltages; in particular, is shows good contrast. The molecules are fixed in their longitudinal orientation and the porous material is resistant to orientation and alternating fields.
