abstract Prepn. of beta-sulphatoethylsulphonyl-substd. 7-aminonaphthalene sulphonic acids of formula (I) or their alkali salts comprises treating cpds. of formula (II) or alkali salts, with SO3 or agents contg. or supplying SO3, in H2SO4 or an inert medium, at above 50 deg.C. The positions of the substits. are: SO3H, (Ia) position 1, (Ib) position 2, (Ic) position 4; sulphonyl gp., (Ia) position 3, (Ib) position 4, (Ic) position 2. X, R = H or SO3H. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are intermediates for synthesis of water-sol. reactive dyes. Pure (more than 95%) isomers are obtd. in high yield.
