titleOfInvention | Leather, especially those with a rough surface, and process for finishing leather |
abstract | Leather (and partic. leather with a rough surface) is impregnated with silicone through at least part of its thickness on at least one side, the impregnant being a one-part silicone rubber which is cross-linked by moisture. A pref. impregnant is polydimethyl-siloxane; the leather is preferably dressed with e.g. dyed polyurethane, polyacrylic and/or polyamide before the impregnation. ADVANTAGE - The process produces an effectively hydrophobic surface whilst still retaining the natural properties of the leather. The finished product is still readily glued if necessary. If it is finally disposed of by incineration it does not pollute the environment. |
