titleOfInvention | (3-fluorophenyl) piperidines and piperazines |
abstract | New (3-fluorophenyl)-piperidines and -piperazines are of formula (I), where R1=1-18C alk(en)yl, opt. with halogen substit(s). or a CN substit. in which 1 or 2 non-adjacent CH2 gps. may be replaced by -O-, -CO-O-, -O-CO- or -S-; A1=1,4-phenylene, opt. with 1-2F substits., in which 1 or 2 CH gps. may be replaced by N; 1,4-cyclohexylene, opt. with a CN substit., in which 1 or 2 CH2 gps. may be replaced by O or S; thiadiazole-2,5-diyl; or 1,4-bicyclo(2,2,2)- octylene; L1-3=H or F; Z1-2=-CO-O-, -O-CO-, -CH2O-, -OCH2-, -CH2CH2-, -C=C- or a single bond; W=CH or N; X=CN, NCS, halogen or a 1-8C alk(en)yl or alk(enyl)oxy gp., opt. with F and/or Cl substit(s)., in which 1 CH2 gp. may be replaced by CO; and m and n = 0, 1 or 2. USE/ADVANTAGE - Cpds. with a 1-(3'-fluoro- or 3',5'-difluoro-phenyl)-piperidin-1,4'-diyl or -piperazin-1,4'-diyl gp., esp. (I) are used in liq. crystal (LC) media, which are used in electrooptical displays (claimed). (I) are esp. useful in twisted cell, guest-host, deformation aligned phase or dynamic scattering type LCDs. (I) are stable LC or mesogenic cpds. with relatively low viscosity and high dielectric anisotropy. Media contg. (I) are stable and have relatively low viscosity, a wide mesophase range, favourable optical and dielectric anisotropy and very good low temp. properties. |
