Between the storage container and the lancet is a releasable connection and the outer shape of the instrument corresponds to that of a pen. At its end, pointing to the lancet the storage container is an opening for removal of the test strips and the lancet has a corresp. seal. Pref. the instrument has a holder device for a test strip and at least one locating surface. The holder device is located at the end of the storage container opposite to the releasable connection, the container being inclined in relation to the holder device. The storage container has a holder stirrup and the holder device is formed by a slot with a clamping arrangement in the holder stirrup. The lancet has a stop watch fitted to it which is driven by solar cells.
