Waraterpols, terpene analogous metabolites from penicillium sp. are of formula (I). R1 = H or acetyl; R2 = H; or R2 and R3 together form a double bond; R3 = OH or R2 and R3 together form a double bond and/or R3 and R4 together form a double bond or R1 and R3 together form an ether bridge; R4 = H; or R3 and R4 together form a double bond; R5 = H or OH; or R1,R2,R5 and R6 = each opt. satd. linear, branched or cyclic 1-20C alkyl ester, opt. substd. aromatic ester, heteroaryl ester or an alkyl- or aryl sulphonic acid ester. Also claimed in penicillium sp. DSM 7219 and its variants and mutants which are capable of producing a cpd. (I). USE - (I) are pharmacologically active esp. against bacteria and human pathogenic and phytopathogenic fungi and fungi which destroy food. (I) can therefore be used in the prophylaxis and therapy of bacterial and mycotic infections, as preservatives for food and to control phytopathogenic fungi in plant activation. (I) are effective against yeasts, moulds, dermatophytes and dimorphic fungi. |
