abstract | The process concerns the prodn. of an anthraquinone dyestuff, which is a 2-alkyl-l-oxo-3-imino-4,7 -diamino-5,6-phthaloylisoindoline (2-alkyl-4,11-diamino-3-imino -1,5,10-trioxo-1,3,5,10 -tetrahydro-2H-naphth-(2,3)f isoindole) cpd. of the formula (I). In (I), R = an (un)satd. alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, cycloakyl, aryloxyalkyl, aralkyl, aralyloxyalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkoxyalkyl or furfuryl; by alklating 1-oxo-3-imino-4,7-diamino -5,6-phthoxylisoindoline (II) with an alkylatng agent (III). The novel features are that (a) alkylation is carried out in an inert solvent (IV) in the presence of acid-binding agent (V); (b) (III) is an alkyl halide R-X (IIIA), a sulphate R-OSO3H (IIIB) or R-OSO3R (IIIC), a phosphate O=P(OR)3 (IIID) or an organic sulphonate A-SO (IIIE) where X = Cl, Br or I; A = phenyl or tolyl; and (c) a phase transfer catalyst (VI) is used with (IIIA), (IIID) or (IIIC). There is no reference to the prepn. of (II). USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) with good quality can be produced in high yield on the industrial scale. They are suitable for dyeing synthetic fibres, esp. polyester fibres, in brilliant greenish-blue hues. |
