abstract Thioglycolate-free hair perming compsn. (of the first/reducing phase) comprises (a) 0.1-55 wt.% of 2-mercaptopropionic acid and/or 3-mercaptopropionic acid; (b) 0.5-5 wt.% L-cysteine; and (c) 0.02-5 wt.% ammonium chloride. The finished prod. has a pH of 7.0-7.9. USE/ADVANTAGE - The compsn. is useful for perming. The compsn. does not cause irritation, bad smells, redness, etc. in skin and eyes.
