titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of soft gelatine capsules |
abstract | The prepn. of soft gelatin capsules, esp. by a dropping or bubble process comprises (a) capturing the soft gelatin capsules immediately after leaving the capsule bath in a paraffin oil bath at 3-10 deg.C. and leaving them in this bath (or at least 8 (esp. at least 12) hrs. at 3-10 deg.C.; (b) removing the capsules and allowing them to drip dry; (c) washing the capsules once or several times with ethanol; (d) placing the capsules in an air stream of temp. upto 28 deg.C. and simultaneously moving them in a rotating container in order as far as possible to remove ethanol; (e) moving the capsules for 2-6 hrs. in a rotating tunnel; through which a uniform air stream at 28 deg.C. is led, in order to further evaporate water; (f) drying the soft gelatin capsules in known manner. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process uses ethanol as the washing solvent and avoids the use of the previously used flammable and/or toxic and/or environmentally harmful solvents such as hydrocarbons, CCl3F or C2HCl3. The capsules can be washed with the ethanol even when the water component in the shell is high, i.e. the drying process has not began. The process is esp. suitable for washing capsules intended for sub-lingual use, which contain a high proportion of gelatine in the shell. The ethanol is also suitable for washing capsules contg. water-soluble dyes in the shell. |
