titleOfInvention Production and application of fullerene polymers
abstract Polymeric materials (I) are claimed, which are obtd. by reaction of cpds. contg. amino or imino gps. or halogen atoms (component A) with Buckminster-fullerenes (C60 and other fullerenes) (component B). Pref. (A) are iso- and/or hetero-polymers with amino or imino gps., contg. e.g. repeating units of polyethyleneimine, poly(vinylamine), poly(allylamine), poly(alkyleneamine), chitosan or chitin, proteins or other biological macromols. with prim. or sec. amino gps. and solubilising comonomer units, e.g. 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidinone, vinylpyridine, styrene, acrylic derivs. and corresp. derivs. and monomers with free or protected amino gps., such as alkenyl-succinimide or alkenyl-phthalimide. Or (A) are iso- and/or hetero-polymers contg. halo atoms, e.g. in repeating units of poly(allyl chloride), PVC, poly(bromoalkene), poly(4-bromostyrene), poly(4-bromoalkylstyrene) or other synthetic or biological halo-contg. macromols. Pref. (A) are diamino or imino cpds. such as diaminoethane, diaminohexane, diaminopoly(oxyethylene) or other aliphatic or aromatic diamino or polyamino cpds., or dihalo cpds. such as dibromoethane, dihalopoly(oxyethylene) or other aliphatic or aromatic dihalo or polyhalo cpds. (B) is Buckminster-fullerene or a deriv. thereof, which serves to introduce special properties into the macromol. USE/ADVANTAGE - New polymeric materials based on fullerenes, with potentially interesting electronic, electrically conducting, non-linear optical and magnetic properties.
