abstract Dye-free polyhydroxyalkanoates are obtd. from bacterial biomass pref. from microorganism culture MB 126 by drying the moist biomass, extracting the dried biomass and precipitating the polyhydroxyalkanoates. The dried biomass is obtd. using a residence time of 10 to 120 minutes at a temp. between 80 deg.C and below the m.pt. of the polyhydroxyalkanoates followed by extracting using an agent comprising acetic acid anhydride. ADVANTAGE - Less solvent is used and an optically pure prod. is obtd.
