titleOfInvention | ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC PHOTO RECEPTOR |
abstract | Electrophographic photoreceptor of the single-layer dipsersion type contains perylene pigment(s) (I) as photoconductor, which is dispersed in an alkali-soluble binder resin (II) and is sensitised with alicyclic resin acid(s) or deriv(s). (III). (III) is abietic, neoabietic, dihydroabietic, tetrahydroabietic, D-pimaric, iso-D-pimaric, dehydroabietic, laevopimaric, agathenedicarboxylic or podocarpic acid or a deriv. of these, esp. abietic acid (IIIA) or derivs. The pref. derivs. are esters of the acids or redn. prods. of the acids, esp. alcohols. (I) is 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (IA) or a 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarbodiimide (IB). R = alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, benzyl, halogen, NO2, H or a combination of these. The photoreceptor also contains an electron donor (IV). The wt. ratios are (I):(II) = 1:(2-6); (III):(I) = 1:(0.1-1); and (IV):(I) = 1:(0.1-1). USE/ADVANTAGE - The photoreceptor is used for making printing plate material with high sensitivity, which yields high quality prints, free from printing ink in the background areas. It has high sensitivity and high electron transport capacity in the negatively charged state. In an example, a grained Al plate was given 4 micron (dry) coating with a dispersion of 5 (wt.) pts. (IA), (A) 2.5, (B) 0 pts. (IIIA), 20 pts. butyl methacrylate/methacrylic acid copolymer and 75 pts. 1:1 mixt. of MEK and `Methylcellosolve' (RTM) and dried, sample (B) being the control. The photoreceptor was charged with a 6- kV corona, kept in the dark for 5s and exposed with 3 1x white light from a W lamp. The initial potential was (A) -500, (B) -511 V; half decay exposure (A) 15, B) 77 1x.s; residual potential (A) -10, (B) -141 V; and dark decay factor (A) 0.22, (B) 0.20. |
