Reactively-processable polymers (I) contain (A) 25-99.99 wt% vinylaromatic monomer(s), (B) 0.01-25 wt% 2H-tetrazole(s) of formula (II), (C) 0-50 wt% copolymerisable monomer(s) and (D) 0-70 wt% polymer to act as grafting base. R, R' = H, alkyl, Ph, alkylphenyl, vinylphenyl, alkoxy, alkoxyphenyl, halophenyl or cyanophenyl, with at least one vinylphenyl gp. per molecule. Also claimed are mixts. (III) contg. 1-99 wt% (I), 1-99 wt% thermoplastic (IV) and opt. 0-10 wt% processing aids. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides homogeneous, reaction-processable polymers (I) which are easily handled during processing and do not require the addn. of further components (e.g. potentially explosive peroxides, cpds. with iminoether gps. etc.) which can give rise to unwanted side reactions and decompsn. The chemical constitution and associated properties of (I) can be adjusted as required during processing by moulding etc. Mixts. (III) have considerably improved impact strength, heat distortion temp. and chemical resistance etc. |
