N2 gas generating grains (I) have a booster coating contg. alkali metal axide, KCl04 oxidiser and H2O insol. metal oxide. A slurry of the booster in H2O is applied to the grains followed by removing any excess and drying to obtain coated (I). Insol. oxide in coating is e.g. an oxide of Fe, Ni, or Al. A typical coat (II) contains 74.5 wt.% NaN3, 24.25% KClO4, 0.75% iron oxide, 0.5% clay binder. Uncoated grains (III) typically contain 57.9% NaN3, 34.6%, 3% graphite fibres, 2.5% bentonite, 2% NaNO3. Coated grains pref. have 5-6% coating wt. w.r.t. grains. |
